The World Championships will be relocated to Helsinki

In October 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) granted the organization of the World Synchronized Skating Championships to Tampere, scheduled for April 4–5, 2025. However, due to scheduling challenges with the Nokia Arena’s event calendar, the Finnish Figure Skating Association’s board decided to request the competition be moved to Helsinki Ice Hall. The ISU confirmed this relocation during their meeting on October 7, 2023.

The Finnish Figure Skating Association has extensive experience and expertise in organizing major synchronized skating competitions. The last time the association hosted the World Synchronized Skating Championships was in 2019 at the Helsinki Ice Hall.

“The Helsinki Ice Hall is a familiar venue for synchronized skating, and it is easily accessible for spectators. We have had excellent cooperation in organizing major competitions with both the Helsinki Ice Hall and the City of Helsinki, so this is a natural continuation,” says Outi Wuorenheimo, Executive Director of the Finnish Figure Skating Association.

The City of Helsinki is also delighted that, after a competitive selection process, the Helsinki Ice Hall was chosen as the new venue for the championships.

“We are pleased that Helsinki will once again serve as the stage for the World Synchronized Skating Championships. With all the teams currently aiming for the competition being from Helsinki, it’s wonderful that they will have the opportunity to skate in front of a home crowd, and that Helsinki residents will once again enjoy a world-class event in their own city,” says Tarja Loikkanen, Director of Sports for the City of Helsinki.

Over the past decade, the Finnish Figure Skating Association has organized several major figure skating events: the European Championships in 2009 and 2023, the World Championships in 2017, and Grand Prix events in the autumns of 2018 and 2022. The World Synchronized Skating Championships have been held twice, in 2011 and 2019.
